I said recently that I became addicted to Twitter and it still continues. Why? Because it’s new for me and I like meeting with interesting people from all around the world.

Even it’s very popular, only one my friends use Twitter and she didn’t even began to tweet.

Twitter is different from every tool that we’ve used before and it’s simply hard do get it at first. Especially when you’ve opened a new account with no followers and no one to follow, you go to your home page and there you think: “What should I do now? Where’s the action? Where’s everybody? I don’t get it.”

Yes, there’s no point of using Twitter without followers and someone to follow. It’s like trying to party alone while you were invited to a great one next door. If you choose not to join, you won’t get it.

I’ll list a few of my observations, like DO’s and DON’Ts for Twitter newbies:

Don’t engage with “Find 400 followers in one day” applications. They tweet on your behalf the same messsage over and over again and you may be considered as a spammer and loose your followers.Personally I’d choose 50 human, nice followers instead of 500 serial link sharing, continuously spam tweeting people. If you already did this and gave your permission to a 3rd party application, go to Settings and then Connections. If it’s there Revoke Access and change your password.

I like to call as “Human” followers people that shares only his/her blog, personal life, shop’s links and / or other interesting links in a normal, random way. I would like more of this people.

Don’t put too many tweets at once. Personally I don’t like it and it looks like you use a bot or program for scheduled tweets and makes you look like spammer. I de-follow people who puts 15 link sharing tweets at once or in a very frequent manner.

Like in the example of partying alone, tweeting by your self is not the right way of using Twitter. You should socialize with and be nice to other people who mentions your name, re-tweets you, promotes your site, shows you follow friday love or laughs at your joke etc. Public timeline page is full of a zillion tweets. For being able to track these personal tweets you should use the @yourusername link under Home at the right sidebar. Here you can see the people who’ve mentioned you and respond to them. Don’t ever neglect people who cared about you and said to get well soon when you tweeted about your sickness! I don’t like people who ignore me for any reasonĀ  and I de-follow them in the next days. If you use Twitter do it the right way.
